Why visit this site?
Well there are several reasons. First and foremost, we love fruit and veg! We love growing it, and eating it, and talking about it, and reading about it...
There's nothing like growing your own fruit and vegetables, harvesting it when it’s perfectly ripe, and eating it minutes after harvest; it’s better for you nutritionally, it tastes better, you can grow different varieties, and the exercise you get growing it is good for you too.
As a nation, England doesn't eat enough fruit or veg, and neither do people in a lot of other Western countries, so anything we can do to encourage it is well worthwhile. Getting children into fruit and veg at an early age is important; it starts them off on habits they'll hopefully follow for the rest of their lives; plus, it's fun for kids to grow things (and fun for adults too of course).
We're trying to bring together an awful lot of information about fruit and veg; not just about why it's good for you, but some other interesting stuff too; information about where things came from, their history, interesting trivia, tips and information on growing them, links to other sites and articles about them, photos of items.
We're also focussing on particular issues in more depth in our Features, where we talk more about things that need it – if you have an idea we can run a feature on, by all means get in touch and ask us, and we'll see what we can do. We'll try and keep you up to date on fruit and veg in the news, which might be about new varieties, or new growing methods, or maybe just something a bit daft.
This website for now is just a starting point – it's up to everyone who's interested to get on board and help us become the best fruit and veg community there is!!!
